But consumers will not have a choice of Internet service providers other than Verizon if they subscribe to the service, said Dana Spiegel, executive director of NYCwireless, a wireless advocacy group.
Verizon is unfairly sidestepping a Federal Communications Commission regulation which requires companies to allow competitors to use their copper, but not fiber optic, wires, he said.
“It’s great that Verizon is providing a higher bandwidth, but it is at the expense of competition,” Spiegel said.
